What Does Meaningful Engagement Really Look Like?
About this Event

Last year, we asked a fundamental question: Who are we really engaging with?

We uncovered the complexities of representing communities that aren’t singular, tidy, or easily defined—and the uncomfortable truth that if engagement doesn’t start early enough to shape a project, it isn’t consultation at all. It’s communications.

One year on, we’re returning to the conversation with a sharper lens and new voices, including those from the development side of the table. This event will explore how developers experience the engagement process, what’s working, what isn’t, and where intentions collide with the realities of delivery.

We’ll also look outward, bringing in global examples of community engagement that have moved beyond box-ticking to create genuinely collaborative, place-shaping outcomes. How are other cities elevating unheard voices? What innovative methods are they using that Greater Manchester can learn from—and adapt?

This next chapter continues the honest, challenging, and constructive dialogue we began together. Expect deeper insight, shared learning, and a collective ambition to push engagement from compliance toward meaningful co-creation.
