Community Day: Beads, Braids & Barrettes Screening
About this Event
✨ A Community Day Celebrating Black Hair, Beauty & Identity ✨
Saturday, September 19 | Time TBD
📍 Overtown Arts, Project Peach
Join us for a full day celebrating the beauty, creativity, history, and cultural power of Black hair.
We’ll come together for a screening of Beads, Braids & Barrettes (2025), directed by Bianca Green — a documentary exploring the hairstyles and accessories that shape our experiences from girlhood to adulthood, and the ways they influence self-image, confidence, identity, and expression.
After the screening, stay for a talkback and an engaging community conversation about the stories and experiences behind Black hair and beauty.
The day continues with hair-care trivia and a panel discussion exploring Black women and the beauty industry, including perspectives on entrepreneurship, representation, innovation, and the evolving business of Black beauty.
The panel will feature the founder of KAZMALEJE, joining us as a panelist and event sponsor alongside ebene natural.
