Community Conversations - History Matters

In 1925, the trial of D.C. Stephenson, the infamous Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan, shattered the facade of the KKK and revealed the depths of its corruption and criminal activities. This landmark case not only brought justice for Madge Oberholtzer, whose courageous deathbed testimony was pivotal in convicting Stephenson, but it also toppled several high-ranking Indiana politicians entangled with the Klan.

The ramifications of the trial echoed far beyond Indiana, marking a significant turning point that contributed to the KKK's decline throughout the 1920s. It is a powerful reminder of the importance of confronting hate, corruption, and injustice head-on.
