SAT, SEPTEMBER 19 | 11 AM–12:30 PM | GRANTS PASS BRANCH
Where did the idea of government by the people come from, and what does it take to make it work? Does democracy mean the same thing to everyone?
Join us for a conversation with Oregon Humanities facilitator Prakash Chenjeri to explore the history, philosophy, and real-world practice of self-government. Examine the ideas of influential political thinkers, the U.S. Constitution, and current research on the challenges facing representative government today. Leave with a deeper understanding of how you can take part in civic life, both locally and nationally.
What Does It Mean to Be a Citizen? is an Oregon Humanities Community Conversation, part of its Beyond 250 initiative, which brings Oregonians together in 2026 to reflect on democracy, freedom, and the future of our communities during the 250 anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. A library card is not required th to participate.
