Abuse, neglect, foster care/adoption, and human trafficking each have a tendency of taking the voice and connections away from a person (especially during childhoood). The expressive arts have been shown to be significant tools to help people connect and give them back their voice. Even though there are many different resources for younger children to access, the resources available for adolescents are limited. Maker Story Creative Collective seeks to provide creative resources for adolescents coping from trauma by connecting them with professional creatives (musicians, visual artists, makers, and taste artists) to guide them on their creative journey, as well as building a creative support system which maintains dignity by being a mutually beneficial relationship (adolescents supporting the professional creatives and vise versa).
We need help to make this successful. For this reason, our founder (Kyle Ford, LPC) will be at SOZO Coffee Roasting to talk with those of you in the community who want to find out ways they can help create creative support systems or to sponsor a support system.
