Jawson Dell Artist Bio: I am a vocalist and songwriter, originally from Colorado, now based in New York City. My connection to music started at a young age with my parents exposing me to a wide spectrum of genres. I started playing violin at age eight, falling in love with the layered sounds and the organic nature of an ensemble. A few years later with the rise of American Idol my “shower‑singer phase” was ignited. Not only did I find my voice, but I started exploring recording and writing simple melodies with my parent’s old cassette tape radio. However, when it came time for college, my parents were not a fan of the idea of majoring in music, so I majored in business and accounting. I used the extra credits required to sit for the CPA exam to take vocal lessons and play in the orchestra. After graduating, I moved to Chicago and engaged in the music scene, but the pandemic was the catalyst that pushed me to create original music and step out as an artist. I knew I would never forgive myself for not pursuing my passion. I didn’t need permission, just my own commitment. I released my first single, “Movin On” in 2021, and followed it with a series of tracks that gained traction. My approach to songwriting begins with the melody, moves to the lyrics, and then my producer and I arrange around that foundation. My sound blends jazz fundamentals with pop melodies, R&B vocals, and undertones of rock and folk.
Before I knew it, I went from the open mic scene, to consistently selling out small venues. I evolved from acoustic sets to performing with a full band of artists in their own right. My community, small but mighty, has supported my dreams and helped me improve with honest feedback. In 2025, I released my first EP, “Still Waters”. In 2026, I moved to NYC to continue to advance my music and participate in a community that is open hearted and artist forward. I am developing my next project, “Green Pastures”, which is centered around different elements of growth
As I continue shaping Green Pastures, I’m seeking a space that nurtures experimentation, promotes collaboration, and provides access to strengthen artistic development. This residency would not only support my next chapter, but it would challenge me to evolve into something new that is still grounded in who I am.
