Presented as part of Green Ray's Spring Quartet programme, this
special screening showcases Liang Junjian's acclaimed documentary
Bitter Sweet Ballad, which is Nominated for Best Documentary Feature at
the 17th FIRST International Film Festival and Most Noteworthy Film
at the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival's China Movie Channel
Media Awards.
Bittersweet Ballad follows four choir students at Beijing Dandelion
Middle School, a school established for the children of migrant workers.
Through their daily lives, rehearsals and performances, the film quietly
explores youth, migration, education and the transformative power of
music with remarkable intimacy and emotional restraint.
Following the screening, audiences will have the opportunity to watch
exclusive video materials from the filmmakers, providing further context
for the film's production and artistic vision.
The screening is organised by Green Ray, a London-based non-profit
film programming and criticism platform dedicated to Asian cinema and
cross-cultural exchange. Through screenings, criticism and public
events, Green Ray introduces underrepresented Asian cinema to UK
audiences while fostering dialogue across cultures.
