🚑 Bringing Lifesaving Blood to the Scene 🩸The Ozaukee Central Fire Department is proud to announce the launch of our Prehospital Blood Transfusion Program beginning April 14, 2026.
This new program allows our paramedics to administer blood to critically injured and ill patients before they reach the hospital—giving them a better chance of survival when every minute counts.
💡 Did you know?
• Severe bleeding is the leading cause of preventable death in trauma patients
• Death from uncontrolled bleeding can occur in as little as 5 minutes
• For every minute blood transfusion is delayed, the risk of death increases by 11%
• Patients who receive blood earlier are significantly more likely to survive and may require less blood overall
To support this initiative, we’re also hosting a community blood drive:
