Community Assessment Approach to Behavioral Health and Mental Health Basics

This session will delve into recent regulatory updates from the 2022 CMS revised State Operations Manual, focusing on the new and revised F-tags related to assessing and meeting residents’ behavioral health, substance use, and trauma needs. Also highlighted will be tools and resources aimed at supporting CMS certified care communities in addressing the growing behavioral health needs of their population. This session will provide educational background into severe mental illness (SMI) including Schizophrenia Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma disorders, and dissociative disorders. Participants will gain an understanding of the impact of SMI on health and well-being, exploring effective therapeutic approaches and best practices for integrating mental health support into care routines.
