commUNITY: 250 Years in the Making

Join us and take part in a hands-on session, assembling and sewing fabric pieces into a growing tapestry that reflects the diverse stories, identities, and experiences that define the community.

As part of the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026, The Frank is launching commUNITY: 250 Years in the Making, a citywide participatory arts initiative inviting residents of Pembroke Pines to contribute to a monumental community tapestry. Led by artist Magda Love, known for her large-scale textile collaborations across the country, the project transforms civic spaces into temporary art-making studios where residents gather to stitch and contribute to a shared piece. In this session, hosted by Broward County Library, participants learn simple textile techniques, contribute personal materials, and work alongside others—no prior experience required.

• Learn simple textile techniques such as stitching and fabric assembly
• Contribute patches, fabrics, and personal touches to the tapestry
• Work collaboratively with other residents to expand the piece

No prior sewing experience is required—participants of all ages and skill levels can contribute.
