Communal: Pompey Analogue Film Open

This event is principally about networking and community building, creating a context where artists, filmmakers, academics and hobbyists can discover and share analogue film practices.

The Communal Space will become a pop-up installation of analogue film technology and related materials, including Super 8 and 16mm film projections. A brief performance will demonstrate the possibilities of live image and sound mark-making. The event offers newcomers a sense of the instantaneity, accessibility and thrill of live Super 8 or 16mm filmmaking, while creating an opportunity for those already working with analogue film to meet and exchange ideas. Places are limited to 30 participants and advance booking is essential.

This event is part of COMMUNAL, Aspex’s seasonal programme supporting Portsmouth’s communities through creativity, collaboration and shared experiences. By providing space, resources and opportunities to connect, COMMUNAL aims to strengthen the city’s creative ecology, build meaningful relationships across diverse communities, and support participation, learning and artistic growth.
