Common Ground, a Live Recording of the Land Language Podcast

Most building projects design the structure first and hand the landscape whatever is left: leftover budget, leftover square footage, leftover soil. This live recording of Land Language, the podcast hosted by Blueprint Earth founder Brit Sastrawidjaya and co-presented with the ASLA Oregon Climate and Biodiversity Action Committee, flips that order. Brit, a regenerative landscape designer, hosts a conversation with Kate Forrester (Landscape Architect, ASLA Oregon CBAC) and Laura Squillace (Architect, Green Hammer). Together they trace where sustainability has been in their fields, what they're grappling with now, and how the disciplines work together from here. The bar is no longer low impact; it's a site that is alive and healthy.

This is a working session about process: who gets called first and why it matters, the early decisions that shape everything after (a dry well or a rain garden is a choice with consequences), and how a landscape can stack functions the way a high-performance building does. Attendees leave knowing the three decision points where a site's ecological performance is won or lost before schematic design, and who needs to be in the room for each one.
