Course Description:
Prerequisite: Certified firefighter
employed by fire rescue agency.
PBSC presents Command Academy Class #1. Lead instructors Brian Anderson and Marc Chavers of MDFR have sixty-nine years in the fire service with forty-one years as fire officers collectively. They offer valuable insight from the “hot seat” as incident commanders. Command Academy will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to successfully manage emergency incidents.
Date, time location: Class meets Monday-Friday, October 12-16, 2026, 0800-1700, Palm Beach State College, 4200 Congress Avenue, Public Safety Center (PSC), Room 114, Lake Worth, FL 33461-4796. The PSC building is on the east side of the campus. Parking is available west of the PSC building.
Who should attend: Any hard-charging firefighter, officer or chief who wants to achieve excellent performance on the fireground.
Maximum enrollment: 12 students. Small classes maximizes student participation.
What students learn: Clearly identifying problems on the fireground, identifying needs along with the personnel and apparatus needed, application of groups and divisions, assigning and tracking personnel under time pressure and managing unusual problems. With repetition and reflection, students move out of their comfort zones and expand their Command capabilities.
Continuing Education credit: This course is approved for continuing education units (CEU) for Fire Instructor and Fire Inspector recertification.
