Join award-winning comic book creator, Neill Cameron (Donut Squad, Mega Robo Bros and Freddy vs School) to celebrate the release of his brand-new books, How to Make Awesome Comics and Donut Squad: Destiny of the Donuts, the third laugh-out-loud comic book in this deliciously hilarious Donut Squad series.
In this interactive workshop, Neill will show you everything you need to know about making comics, from coming up with ideas, creating characters and how to draw pretty much EVERYTHING – including Donuts! Neill will also lead a live draw-a-long and invite children (and adults) to join in by creating their own characters so please do come with some paper, or a sketch book and pencils/pens.
Neill Cameron is a cartoonist and writer, creator of the graphic novel series Mega Robo Bros and Donut Squad, the Freddy VS School illustrated novels, and frequent contributor to weekly children’s comic The Phoenix.
Run time: 45 minutes with 15 minutes for signing afterwards. Can you provide paper, pencils and boards for the kids to write on, just double checking if he would like any other tech, but potentially a screen/presentation.
Neill Cameron is a cartoonist and writer, creator of the comic books Mega Robo Bros, The Pirates of Pangaea (with Daniel Hartwell), Tamsin and the Deep (with Kate Brown), How To Make Awesome Comics, and the middle-grade novels Freddy vs School, Freddy and the New Kid & Freddy the Superstar. Since 2011 his work has appeared in the weekly children’s comic The Phoenix. In 2016 Mega Robo Bros and Tamsin and the Deep were both shortlisted for the British Comics Awards. In 2017, Mega Robo Bros won the Excelsior Award Jr, a national comic award voted for by school and library reading groups across the UK. In 2018 Mega Robo Bros was chosen as one of the best children's comics of the year by both the New York Public Library and the Schools Library Journal, and Mega Robo Bros: Power Up was a Sunday Times Children’s Book of the Week.
Neill also works as an artist-in-residence at The Story Museum in Oxford, where he contributed several large-scale comic strip installations and continues to be involved in comics-based education and activities, including running a monthly Comics Club group for young cartoonists.
Neill frequently travels the country giving workshops in schools, libraries and at festivals, and is a passionate advocate for the role comics can play in developing literacy skills and encouraging children’s creativity.
