Comedy & Clay: A Wild Women Hawai’i Play Day in Downtown Hilo

Join us for a fun play day in charming Downtown Hilo! Registration for this day retreat is required as soon as possible so we can secure our workshops. The minimum number of women for the full day is 9 with a maximum of 14. If we don't meet our minimum, we will have to cancel.

We'll begin with a wet clay workshop at High Fire Hawaii Gallery & Studio where we will play with clay to create a cool 3-footed mug* with various texture options for surface treatment and several glaze colors to choose from. High Fire Hawaii offers a spacious and inviting ceramics studio, conveniently located on the edge of Hilo Town less than 1/4 mile stroll from the Hilo Farmers Market. The main instructor Shannon Hickey has her Art Degree from University of Hawaii and has been teaching ceramics privately and at High Fire Hawaii for over 20 years and teaches Ceramics at the Hawaii Community College.

After our Clay Workshop, we'll walk to the Hilo Farmer's Market for lunch, known for its artistic vibrance and vintage charm. You will have some free time to eat, shop, and enjoy all the art Hilo Town has to offer. Lunch is not included.

We will then walk along the charming downtown shops and make our way to the other end of Hilo Town (about a 1/4-mile walk from the Farmers Market) to Hilo Town Market for a 2-hour Laughter Workshop with Big Island comedienne Keli Semelsberger. Keli is the founder of Big Island Comedy Theater, known for its "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" hilarious improv style. She is also a veteran Chicago improviser and the author of “Improv Shaman”. You need not be afraid of being "on" or funny. The worse you are at it, the more fun you will have. There are zero expectations. This workshop is designed to re-ignite your playful spirit and inspire a true sense of joy that can be applied to all aspects of life. Laughter has a positive impact on women's well-being. The benefits of humor include uplifting mood and reducing stress. Expect possible topics of midlife and be ready to let loose and have fun without fear of judgment.

*Finished mugs will be available for pickup 2 weeks after the workshop. We can offer shipping for sisters off-island.

This private event is for women ages 21 and older - We welcome and value a multigenerational group of women. - Most of our participants are ages 30-60. No children, pets, or guests, please.
