Andrei Protsouk’s The Hangover is a wild, modern echo of Rembrandt’s The Storm on the Sea of Galilee. Where Rembrandt painted a tempest-tossed ship filled with frantic sailors, Protsouk gives us a carnival of angular bodies, spinning wheels, fractured sails, and a moonlit sea that feels both chaotic and strangely rhythmic.Seen against today’s global backdrop—economic uncertainty, political division, environmental upheaval—the work feels strikingly relevant. We, too, are clinging to the ropes, balancing between collapse and resilience. The “hangover” could just as easily be read as society’s collective one: a consequence of excess, shortsightedness, or unchecked ambition.
Protsouk’s crew seems to find it in stubborn tenacity—and maybe, just maybe, a toast to surviving the storm.
Come sail the high seas with us at the Andrei Art Gallery to close out the summer weather in the Poconos. Andrei will be showcasing his nautically inspired collection of paintings featuring the epic high seas from fantasy to the canvas and in your home. We will be showcasing original paintings, works on paper, and new limited editions, all available for acquisition. Additionally, we have extended our Labor Day holiday sale through the end of next weekend, so you can pick out the next beautiful piece for your collection in person!
We will be featuring some gorgeous fare provided by the talented maestro chef Nicola of Momentos Restaurant, delicious wines from Renegade Winery and beautiful atmospheric music from our talented musician Michael Fossa on the keys. Join us for a memorable evening!
