About this Event

In partnership with the Merced County Arts Council and the Multicultural Arts Center, and in collaboration with the Free Flow Dance Home Project, KrizaFlor (Heal the Hood Cart), and the SouthEast Asian Youth Alliance (SEAYA), "Come home, come dance" or "los tsev, los seev cev” (translated in Hmong) is a new dance work that brings together local Merced creatives, artists, and performers who are descendants of immigrants and refugees, queer and trans, Hmong, femme, and/or youth. This work consists of weekly rehearsals, creative residencies, a community workshop, and a culminating live performance event that includes pre and post show activities and free offerings for the community.

"Come home, come dance" engages the communities who reside on Native Yokuts Land and call Merced and the Central Valley home. This work asks: what happens to a people when they are displaced from their homelands, their communities, and their bodies? What happens to a people when their dances and movements have stopped, changed, and disappeared? How do they find their ways home? How do they find their ways to dance again? This work facilitates dialogue, cultivates hope, and inspires collective action that will help our communities feel more belonging, cared for, loved, and free in this present moment and into our futures.
