Where? Fenton Town Hall
A hyperbolic paraboloid is a unique shape that utilises the flexible nature of bamboo poles to create complex curved architectural forms that are both strong and light. The process of building the shape is surprisingly simple but incredibly effective. A flat grid is created with full straight bamboo poles and curved on two axes, encompassing both concave and convex faces.
We will be working with mini bamboo canes and larger to give an idea of scale and what bamboo is capable of.
FREE. Drop in session. No booking required.
Suitable for all ages. It can be a bit fiddly so we suggest ages 10+ (any young person aged 16 or under needs to be accompanied by an adult).
About Brilliant Bamboo: Brilliant Bamboo is an organisation creating projects for people and the planet using bamboo and other materials to create and imagine greener futures in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire and the planet.
We are a Community Interest Company with a mission to marry the arts, communities and professionals from across the sectors in exploration and collaboration around growing, building, and creating from bamboo.
We’re here to develop environmentally positive projects that explore sustainable materials for people and the planet. We’re developing our organisation and projects all the time and we’ll be looking for you to be involved by coming along, taking part, volunteering, becoming a partner or collaborator, or as a funder.

Parking & access: lots of on street parking in the streets outside of the venue, also small P&D car park to the rear of Fenton Town Hall. The main entrance has steps, there is a side door with flat entrance accessed by a push button door, and access to a lift to the Ballroom.
