Colors of the Horse: Works in Progress with Kimry Jelen

Come join local artist Kimry Jelen as she introduces Colors of the Horse, a project that explores horses through color, appreciation, and lived experience. Jelen will share how the concept emerged, why it matters, and how the work is moving forward. This talk marks the first public sharing of the project, offered on the night of the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Fire Horse.

Lecture will be followed by a Q & A.

For ages 16 and older. Those under age 16 may attend accompanied by an adult.

About the Speaker:

Kimry Jelen is an artist working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, known for a richly textured, highly colorful style that moves fluidly between abstraction and representation. Her work is deeply inspired by nature and animals, horses in particular, and grows from years of close observation, lived experience, and a deep appreciation for their presence and individuality.

In a time when many people feel increasingly separate from the natural world, Kimry’s paintings invite viewers back into a sense of connection with animals, the land, and with themselves. She approaches painting almost as a form of sculpting, building layers of color and texture to express the essence, movement, and character of her subjects. Her goal is not only to depict what an animal or landscape looks like, but to convey what it feels like to truly see and know them.

Kimry lives and works in Sisters, OR, where she paints, works with horses, and draws daily inspiration from the surrounding wilderness and the critters she cares for. She finds the greatest fulfillment in hearing that her work has touched someone’s heart or helped them see an animal’s personality in a new way.
