Join the Regimental Brewmeister for a unique opportunity to experience the art and craft of zymology as you learn all the nuances of brewing in the 18th Century. If you are already a homebrewer, challenge your skills at making beer without the modern conveniences of clocks, thermometers, hydrometers, and chillers. If you are new to brewing, come learn the basics. This class will malt the grain, brew the mash over the fire in true 18th-century fashion.
Each participant will take home a growler of the result and necessary equipment to finish the fermenting process at home!
Learn about beer’s place at the early American table and what really happened in colonial taverns.
Price will be $99/person and this will include more Colonial Beer than you should drink. Every participant will have the have the opportunity to participate, hands-on, in the making of the wort and then take some of that wort home to ferment into beer (ie I will be giving you a growler, airlock, and some yeast and if you follow the provided instructions in about 10 days you will have Spruce Beer).
Wear work clothes and bring leather gloves. This workshop takes place outside so dress appropriately.
If you've never attended one of our Colonial Brewing Classes you are missing a real treat. At the demonstrations, I prepare beer and offer samples but all you get to do is observe. In our brewing classes, YOU ARE THE BREWER, and we coach. At the end of the day, you take home your wares to ferment into your own authentic 18th Century Spruce Beer which you can share with your friends.
