Colleen is the embodiment of never letting a bad thing get you down – even when she lost 95% of her vision during a heart transplant. Colleen is a type 1 diabetic, and after six years of receiving multiple stents, there was not much more the cardiologists could do. She needed a heart transplant.
Colleen’s surgery had complications, and due to blood loss and lack of oxygen, she suffered permanent vision loss. Despite this, she returned home determined to ensure her family’s life didn’t change.
Post-transplant, Colleen has made the most of her second chance at life by living a fit and healthy lifestyle and inspiring others with her story. After participating in the first Breaths and Beats ride on a tandem, she discovered a new love for cycling and is now a regular member of the Western Australia Tandem Cycling group.
