In this workshop we’ll immerse ourselves in Evelyn Patricia Terry’s layered collages and found-object assemblages, exploring how the words she collages become directives, awakenings, and questions. Through guided prompts and freewriting, participants will respond to her visual directives (e.g., “Think Something Revolutionary,” “Choose Courage”) and create ekphrastic poems or micro-essays that reflect back their own journey of change, resistance, and hope. We’ll then share, reflect, and invite participants to use fragments of their writing as visual elements for a collaborative collage.
