Join us for the October #WIP program, either in person or online via Zoom. Colin Boisvert will be speaking on "The Osteological neutral pose of the neck of an apatosaurine sauropod from the Mill Canton Quarry (Upper Jurassic, Morrison Formation) near Moab, Utah."Fall treats and door prizes will be on hand for those who attend in person! The Zoom link will be sent to members who prefer to join online a few days before the meeting. If you're not a member and would like to attend, email [email protected] before 4 p.m. the day of the meeting for the link.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Colin will be speaking about a specimen of apatosaurine sauropod, BYU 18531, uncovered in southern Utah near Moab. This specimen is unique given how complete and relatively undistorted the neck is of this animal providing a unique opportunity to conduct studies into the neck posture of diplodocids. Using BYU 18531 as a case study, Colin used the literature and a combination of models of the vertebrae to determine the likely posture for this apatosaurine in life and will also discuss some of the implications of these findings.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Colin Boisvert is a first-year PhD student at OSU CHS in Tulsa working with theropods. He received two BS degrees, in biology and geology, from the University of California Davis. He also did a master’s. He loves Allosauroids and plans to spend his life studying their phylogenetics, biogeography and general megatheropod ecology along with other related issues and questions regarding the Jurassic and Cretaceous. He enjoys hiking with friends, spending time with family, watching movies, and reading a variety of books. Colin grew up on the West Coast. He has helped with fieldwork in Montana and Utah and participated in an excellent internship with the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
