More info and registration here: https://events.cmclibrary.org/event/14485639Col. Henry Sawyer was a remarkable man who helped win the Civil War and helped build the city of Cape May from 1850 until his death in 1893. The hotel he built, The Chelfonte, is the oldest still standing hotel in the city.
His civic story is worth telling but his experiences in the Civil War are amazing. He was the key participant in the infamous Lottery of Death and was saved by the intervention of his wife and President Lincoln. As a cavalry officer and a member of the First New Jersey Cavalry, he took part in many battles and was badly wounded four different times but kept coming back to fight with his troops.
Come see his exciting story in a 32 minute documentary written by local historians J.P. and Gwen Hand with the help of filmmaker Jim Talone
