About this Event

Sit and chat with curator and professor of printmaking Sheila Goloborotko and MOCA Senior Curator Ylva Rouse and learn more about on Sat, Feb 22 at 11 a.m. during Coffee with a Curator. Enjoy drinks and snacks from Setlan Coffee and dive into the details about this book making exhibition. Admission is free on Saturdays thanks to the generous support of VyStar Credit Union, and attendees are encouraged to explore the museum after the program.

All Hands On Deck presents an exhibition of artist books created in the past fifteen years by Small Craft Advisory Press (SCAP) at Florida State University. Founded by Professor of Art Denise Bookwalter, SCAP brings together artists, writers, designers, and scholars to work collaboratively on projects that challenge the conventions of what books are and do. Each book has an entirely unique form reflecting methods ranging from historical hand-sewn bindings to laser-cut wood blocks and 3D printing. Each project is shaped through cooperative procedures, conversation, and experimentation, reflecting the press' non-hierarchical work ethic. While the physical form of the projects varies widely and is influenced by their makers' diverse interests and skills, each has in common a process of inquiry rooted in dialogue and sharing, illustrated in the ephemera, test prints, and other support materials included in this exhibition. This iteration of All Hands On Deck is curated by Sheila Goloborotko, Professor of Printmaking at the University of North Florida, for the UNF Gallery at MOCA.

About MOCA

The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville (MOCA) is the only museum in Northeast Florida dedicated to contemporary art. MOCA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a Cultural Institute of the University of North Florida. The museum serves the community and its visitors through exhibitions, collections, educational programs, and publications designed to enhance an understanding and appreciation of contemporary art with particular emphasis on works created from 1960 to the present.

Located in the heart of historic Downtown Jacksonville, MOCA is one of the city’s most significant cultural assets. Among the most prominent contemporary art museums in the Southeast, MOCA’s exhibitions and programs set the pace for arts and art-integrated programming on a regional and national stage. Renowned in this community, MOCA casts the spotlight on Jacksonville as a burgeoning, vital arts destination.

The museum is also a cornerstone of Jacksonville’s multibillion-dollar downtown revitalization plan with exhibitions and programs that bring new visitors to the civic core during the day, at night, and on weekends.
