Michael McKinnell, architect and artist, and Steve Rosenthal, architectural photographer have interpreted their love of the natural world in their work with the built environment. Quarry Inspirations—Art & Architecture will explore their revelations in two works displayed in the current exhibition Hammers on Stone. McKinnell transformed his view of quarry stones into paintings that exhibit his architect’s eye for form, material, and texture. Rosenthal’s photographs of the quarries suggest structures for which quarried stones have been used. Both artists appreciated the beauty in the stone as well as the quarry sites.
