Join us for our February Coffee & Conservation event at the Englewood Chamber of Commerce, featuring Barbara Lockhart, founder of the Neighborhood Land Conservancy.Barbara will share the story behind her mission to protect small neighborhood parcels of land from development and why conserving these often-overlooked spaces is critical for wildlife, water quality, flood mitigation, and long-term community resilience.
This presentation focuses on practical, local conservation, including:
🐾 How neighborhood land conservation supports wildlife habitat and corridors
🌧️ Why preserved green spaces reduce flooding by naturally absorbing stormwater
💧 How natural land helps filter water before it reaches drainage systems
🤝 Ways individuals can make a real impact through volunteering, advocacy, or creating nature-friendly spaces at home
Barbara is a University of Florida Master Naturalist (Land Steward) and a Florida Registered Paralegal specializing in real estate. A Charlotte County native, her work is deeply rooted in protecting the landscapes she grew up with across Sarasota and Charlotte Counties.
☕ Complimentary coffee generously provided by Dearborn Coffeehouse, because good conversations about conservation start with great coffee.
This event is part of our ongoing Coffee and Conservation, bringing together conservation leaders and community members for meaningful, place-based conversations.
