Our September program will feature the amazing life and work of Elizebeth Smith Friedman. Al Watts, Heritage Manager of the Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley, will share how Elizebeth and her husband William Friedman were brought out to the Geneva estate of eccentric millionaire Colonel George Fabyan. They worked on codebreaking during World War I, which led to the start of the National Security Agency. Her crucial work in codebreaking helped defeat the enemy during World War I, helped convict smuggling syndicates during prohibition and helped with the capture of Nazi spies in South America during World War II.
