Code of Misconduct: A Community Screening & Conversation
Building Safer Sport Through Accountability, Consent, and Community
Join Breland Counselling & Support for a community screening of Code of Misconduct, followed by a facilitated panel discussion exploring the broader culture of sport, accountability, consent, healthy relationships, and violence prevention.
While the documentary centers on hockey, the conversations it raises extend well beyond one sport. Whether your family is involved in hockey, football, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, dance, gymnastics, or any other youth activity, this evening invites us to reflect on the environments we create for young people and the values we model as adults.
This event is intended for parents and caregivers, coaches, managers, sport administrators, educators, school leaders, community members, social workers, counsellors, psychologists, youth support workers, hockey fans, and anyone committed to fostering safer, healthier sporting environments.
Together, we will explore questions such as:
- How do we create cultures that prioritize respect, accountability, and safety?
- What role do parents, coaches, and community leaders play in shaping young people's understanding of consent, masculinity, leadership, and belonging?
- How can we move beyond reacting to harm and instead focus on preventing it?
Following the film, a panel of local professionals and community leaders will engage in a thoughtful, trauma-informed discussion, with opportunities for attendees to reflect, ask questions, and connect with community resources.
Community organizations will also be on site throughout the evening, providing information, education, and support for those interested in learning more or becoming involved in creating safer communities.
This event is grounded in the belief that preventing violence is a shared responsibility. By coming together to learn, reflect, and engage in respectful dialogue, we can all play a role in creating sporting environments where every child, youth, and family feels safe, valued, and respected.
