About this Event
COASTS Presents: Coastal Resilience in a Changing Climate is a film festival, hosted by the University of New Haven and Long Island Sound Study, that highlights the impacts of climate change on Connecticut’s coastal communities and ongoing efforts to protect and restore our shores. The event will conclude with a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring filmmakers, community organizers, and experts in marine science. We will be screening the following three films at the event:
Rising Sea Levels and Connecticut
This film was produced by the Digital Media Students at New Haven’s Metropolitan Business Academy (MBA). In this documentary, high school students from MBA examine the issue of Sea Level Rise in CT. Through research and interviews, students reveal aspects of Connecticut's topography and population distribution that make sea level rise a threat to coastal communities across the state.
Regenerating Life: Water Cools the Planet
This film by John Feldman explores the crucial role of water in maintaining Earth's climate stability. It emphasizes how water's ability to absorb heat and facilitate various natural processes, such as evaporation and precipitation, helps regulate global temperatures. This piece also highlights the interconnectedness of water systems and ecosystems in promoting life and sustaining the planet's balance.
Cutline: Climate Change Along Connecticut’s Coast
Produced by Ryan Caron King of Connecticut Public, this documentary demonstrates that Connecticut’s coastline along the Long Island Sound will be the front line to some of the state’s most severe impacts of climate change. Through Cutline, we will travel along the coasts of the Sound to learn about its historical and ecological importance, the challenges that coastal communities face, and what needs to be done to protect them.
