Come on an exciting adventure! Unlock the hidden treasures of coastal wild edible plants- salty, succulent, nutritious, delicious and free!
About this Event

The UK coast is jam packed with an array of incredibly tasty and nutritous plants - so come and discover these common and abundant plants- plants that you can find in similar habitats around the coast, (some even abroad too)! Please note that this is not about foraging seaweed!

As the seasons change, the plants change... this walk in March will show you some of the plants you can usually find throughout the foraging calendar. As the season mellows more delightful plants begin to pop up! Always a good idea then, to do another walk later in the season to see what else is out there. I usually run a few throughout the Spring and Summer months so do check to see if there is another later in the year.

Salt marshes are habitats that abound in nature- the birds who love to wade and forage there are always so beautiful to see and hear. Care has to be taken not to disturb their habitat, so this walk will be along the paths next to the tidal river. If high tide then it can be boggy and wet so please wear waterproof shoes or wellies.

As this is a Site of Special Scientic Interest (SSSI), we are not allowed to take from the wild here- but we can look and learn about these new plants, and discover their nutritional and medicinal profiles if appropriate. Take photos, make notes or drawings so you can take this information with you forever- a coastal walk in a similar location will never be the same!

You will learn how to forage sustainably and legally, learn about plants not to pick and those that could be potentially hazardous and to avoid.

At the end of the walk (approx two hours), we will return to the car park and enjoy some wild tasters, have a de brief and discuss highlights of the plants we have found.

Walks are always fun and with a like minded bunch of people.

Make sure you wear suitable clothing for the weather... hopefully it will be dry, but the coast can be windy and cold so be prepared please!

Free public car park at Adur District Council's recreational field north side of the A259- meet here and we will walk from there. Also public toilets in the car park.

  • Lots of nice places to enjoy afterwards in Shoreham over the bridge.
  • Dogs on leads welcome.
  • Children under 12 years old go free.
  • Henrietta is an Association of Foragers verified member- our aim is to restore vital connection.
