Coalition Flag at John Glenn High School Football Game

For events requiring a massive visual display of patriotism, the Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition (GLBVC) is the primary resource in the Great Lakes Bay region for the ceremonial unfurling of a giant 30' x 60' American flag.

The Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition will be presenting our nation’s colors at the Veterans Appreciation Game at John Glenn High School on September 3rd, 2026.
The flag will be carried out onto the field prior to the National Anthem. The announcer will read a brief description about the Coalition and the flag as the team unfurls it. Once complete, the band will play the National Anthem. Afterwards, the team will furl the flag back up and walk off the field.
The flag takes a minimum of 45 people to handle. All participants must be 16 or older.
We will arrive 60 minutes prior to the game to practice carrying, unfurling, and furling the flag.

The Ceremonial Unfurling
GLBVC provides this oversized flag, which is roughly the size of a standard tennis court—for high-profile community and sporting events. The flag is typically used during the National Anthem to create a powerful tribute to service members and the nation.
 Event Types: The coalition has featured this flag at major venues, including Dow Diamond for Great Lakes Loons games and various veterans' appreciation events at local high schools.
 Volunteer Support: An unfurling of this scale requires significant manpower—often involving a team of 40 to 50 volunteers to ensure the flag is held taut and never touches the ground, adhering to strict Flag Etiquette.
 Mission-Driven: Beyond the visual impact, these ceremonies serve as a vehicle for the GLBVC's mission to promote patriotism in the local community.
Logistics and Coordination
If you are organizing an event and wish to include a large-scale flag presentation:
 Request Placement: Contact the Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition well in advance, as this giant flag is in high demand for patriotic holidays and season openers.
 Space Requirements: Ensure the venue (stadium field, arena floor, or large open campus) can accommodate the full 1,800-square-foot dimensions of the flag.
 Personnel: The coalition often coordinates with local veterans, first responders, or student groups to participate in the actual unfurling, providing a unique opportunity for community involvement.
