This flagship reserve on the Suffolk coast provides the opportunity to see more than 100 breeding bird species in one day! Bittern, Avocet, Bearded Tit and Marsh Harrier support a cast of waders, gulls and passerines. Stone Curlew possible. There is a huge reedbed, several scrapes, marsh, grassland, scrub, woodland and beach to explore.Also the opportunity to walk a short distance along the cliff to Dunwich Heath (National Trust), well known for Dartford Warbler.
Facilities: 8 hides, visitor centre, toilets, shop, cafe and picnic area at RSPB Minsmere. Toilets and cafe at NT Dunwich Heath.
Distances and accessibility: At Minsmere, the circular coastal trail (2 miles) and Island Mere trail (1.5 miles) both begin at the Visitor Centre. The Woodland trail is 1 mile and partly overlaps the Island Mere trail.
Most paths are well surfaced. A boardwalk to the East Hide allows access for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
A wheelchair and mobility scooter are available to borrow: booking essential.
Admission charges: RSPB members: free (bring your membership card): free; Non-members: £10
Coach pick ups: Stevenage: 7.15am. Hitchin: 7.30am. Letchworth: 7.45am. Baldock on request. Royston: 8.05am
Comfort breaks: We expect to stop on the outward journey but not on the return journey.
