A new venue on the banks of the Thames only 1.25hrs away so we can leave later than usual! 100 acres of reedbeds, lakes, scrapes, meadows and gardens. Winter ducks, Bittern, Water Rail, Bearded Tit, Water Pipit, Siskin and Redpoll all regularly seen in February. Wildlife talks plus you can see, up close, birds from the ‘wetlands of the world’.
Facilities: Visitor centre, 6 hides, cafe, shop, toilets.
Distances and accessibility: All hides are accessible including the Peacock Hide which has a lift. Lots of benches. Paths are mostly flat and tarmac, gravel or boardwalk – all accessible to wheelchairs. Three mobility scooters available to book.
Admission charges: WWT members free (bring your membership card). Non-members at Group rate: £15.39 adults, £13.98 concessions (over 65). NOTE this must be paid in cash on the coach .
Coach pick ups: Hitchin: 8.15am. Letchworth: 8.30am. Stevenage: 8.45am.
Comfort breaks: As it’s a short journey, we don’t plan to stop but could do so at South Mimms if needed.
All welcome. No need to be a member of RSPB or our Local Group.
Coach fare: £30 payable in advance - preferabley at least 2 weeks beforehand - through Malcolm. Call him (leave a message if there's no answer) or speak to him at one of our Indoor Meetings.
