Frensham Common is a large area of heathland, with some woodland, and two large ponds, known as Frensham Great and Little Ponds (more like lakes!) about a mile apart. Opportunities to see Woodlark, Tree Pipit, Redstart, Dartford Warbler, Spotted Flycatcher, Cuckoo and Hobby as well as more common water, heath and woodland birds. Tern rafts provided for nesting. Lizards, carnivorous Sundew!
Coach fare £30 (adults). Please book and pay through Malcolm (contact details available on request - or see our pinned post) preferably by 2 May although we will probably be able to accept later bookings.
The coach departs Hitchin: 7.30am. Letchworth: 7.45am. Stevenage: 8.00am.
No admission charge to reserve.
Facilities: 2 hides at Little Pond. Toilets, refreshments with outside seating at both Little Pond (National Trust) and Great Pond (Waverley Borough Council)
Distances and accessibility: Many paths cross the heath giving lots of options. Sandy soil so generally dry. Walking from Great Pond to Little Pond (about 1 mile) is popular or you can just go as far as Kings Ridge for views both ways over the heath.
