Hydronic System Performance. Why Design and Modeling Data Cannot Aways Predict a Building’s Actual Performance.

· Point 1 There is a tendency in design to oversize equipment / coils for typical loads

· Point 3 Modern Pressure independent valve technology improves building hydronic balance and operating efficiency.

This presentation is an overview of Hydronic System Performance benefits derived from implementation of pressure independent control valve offerings.

Discussion on “design day” and other factors that often lead to chosen control valves being oversized, leading to poor control. Valve “authority” is discussed and how low authority results in poor control.

The topic of static balancing (how it’s been done for years) and what is offered now to improve upon it.

I will also touch upon effects of overflowing to coils and point out the inefficiencies in heat transfer when this occurs. Solutions to avoiding overflowing and also finding the balance between coil BTU output and flow (pumping) efficiency. The end result is better control while also reducing flow / pump energy consumption.

2) Effects that pressure dependent control valves have on entire pumping system

3) Introduce and explain pressure independent control valves (mechanical and electronic).

4) Explain improvements in building hydronic balance using pressure dependent valve technology

5) Show inefficiencies associated with overflowing of coils. Explain better ways of controlling coils by implementing actual BTU (power) output using data not available in conventional pressure dependent valves.
