CLPL - Introducing Archaeology in the Classroom

Welcome to Archaeology Scotland's CLPL Introducing Archaeology in the Classroom!

This Career-Long Professional Learning session will show you how you can introduce Archaeology in an education setting, and will provide resources, guides and activity ideas. We will share how your learners can uncover stories from the past, as well as discovering how the past can impact the present and future.

We will dive into examples of how you can apply an archaeological approach to Sustainability and Climate action, as well as looking at successful archaeological learning with our Energy Through Time project.

When: Wednesday 29 January 4-5pm, Thursday 20 March 4-5pm (content covered will be the same in both sessions)

Who: This event is designed for teachers, trainee teachers and educators working with CfE Second Level Learners, as well as youth group leaders, Young Archaeologist Club leaders, students and anyone interested in using archaeology as a tool for learning. No experience necessary, suitable for people without or with experience of delivering archaeological learning.

Summary of session:

• This session will offer ways to introduce archaeology to deliver the Curriculum for Excellence (Second Level).

• We will share resources and tools, where to find them and simple tips to maximise their potential, as well as curriculum linked activity ideas.

• Discover how you can apply an archaeological approach to learn about the past and inform the future (Sustainability and Climate action)

• Explore our Energy Through Time project (STEM and Meta-skills, Wellbeing)

• There will be a Q&A at the end to ask any questions, get advice and tailored support for your needs.

We aim for teachers and educators to leave the session with increased confidence, knowledge and tools for delivering archaeological learning for your learners.
