About this Event
MARK STOLZENBERG, a master of the craft, and a celebrated author on the topic, teaches this 5-Class Series on Fridays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, and the next session begins on Friday, January 9th. All classes take place at the American Mime Theatre, 137 West 25th Street, Between 6th & 7th Avenues, Ground Floor (Ring Buzzer For Entry), New York, NY 10001 (FOR MORE INFO, PLEASE CONTACT MARK AT 917-797-2577). The course emphasizes classical and contemporary clown comedy routines, character development, slapstick, and physical comedy, and explores the essence and spirit of clowning on a truly artistic level. Movement, staging, and illusion mime are also covered, and students work on juggling and balancing as well. MARK STOLZENBERG is an award-winning actor, screenwriter, and director, who started his career as a clown with the Ringling Bros. Circus. He became the first American clown to perform on stage in China, and he placed 5th in the world in an international variety arts competition in Japan. Mark wrote and starred in the two-person full length mime play called, "Pierrot and Pirouette", which ran at Lincoln Center, and later toured nationally. His screenplay version of the work earned him a spot as a finalist with the Sundance Instutute's Screenwriters Lab. Mark has made several appearances as a circus artist and physical comedian on The David Letterman Show and the Robert Klein TV Series, and he is the author of three books published by Sterling Publishing Company NYC: "Clown for Circus & Stage", "Exploring Mime", and "How to be Really Funny." More recently, Mark can be seen in a Supporting Lead Role in the A24 feature film, "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You", starring Rose Byrne, Conan O'Brien, and A$AP Rocky, which was released in theatres nationally in October 2025, and it can now be seen on various streaming platforms. Mark is the Founding Director of The New York Acting School For Film and Television.
