Whether you're an experienced burlesque performer, or someone just starting out, this 3hr workshop will have something for everyone, in exploring how better to connect with your audience playfully and with presence. Best suited to folk interested in performing contemporary/neo-burlesque, or who don't mind making fun of themselves and engaging with their more ridiculous/absurd sides. 3 hours is such a short time! We won't be able to explore all things, however we will dip our toes into the wonderfully turbulent waters of the ridiculous. If there is interest, a longer workshop can be arranged in future.
If your circumstances are a barrier, please let me know. Especially for those underrepresented in the performance/clowning scene, incl First Nations, BIPOC/People of the Global Majority or folk who identify as having disability.
ABOUT: Anna Thomson is an award-winning performer, producer and educator (Darwin Fringe Risky Award 2019, Super Producer 2022, Best Cabaret 2024, Finalist Inspiring Educator NT Performing Arts Awards 2024) with a penchant for the weird and wonderful, creating daring, absurd and fantastical shows and creative programs with young people and adults.
They strive to create inclusive spaces where risk-taking is encouraged and celebrated, explored through a queer feminist lens. They are critically engaged with interrogating how colonisation impacts teaching and learning.

I recognise that these workshops will be run on the unceded Aboriginal lands of the Kaurna people, and pay my whole-heartened respects. I commit to anti-racist practices and raising the voices of First Nations people across so called 'Australia'.
