About this Event
The Road to Yorktown SC7 Expedition Finale | A Sunset Celebration Aboard the USS Yorktown
Join us for a truly unforgettable evening as we conclude the 2026 SC7 Expedition with a special sunset gathering aboard the iconic USS Yorktown at Patriots Point.
Over the course of 30 days, the SC7 Expedition Team will traverse South Carolina, visiting sites that played a critical role in the American Revolution. At each location—including Cowpens, Kings Mountain, Musgrove Mill, Camden, Lynches River, Fort Fair Lawn, and Charleston Harbor—the team will pause for a 250-second moment of silence to honor the sacrifices made in pursuit of American independence.
Now, the journey comes to an end.
As the battleship can trace its name back to the 1781 Battle of Yorktown, the decisive Revolutionary War victory that effectively secured American independence, the ship serves as a powerful reminder of South Carolina's enduring military legacy and the generations of brave men and women who have served our nation over the past 250 years.
Guests will join members of the SC7 Expedition Team, distinguished civic leaders, active-duty military personnel, veterans, and fellow South Carolinians for an inspiring evening of history, reflection, and celebration.
The evening begins with a brief ceremonial program honoring South Carolina's role in the road to Yorktown and the spirit of service that continues to define our state today.
Following the program, guests will ascend to the flight deck of the USS Yorktown for a one-of-a-kind experience overlooking Charleston Harbor at sunset. Enjoy:
• Spectacular panoramic harbor views from the flight deck
• Coffee, cocktails, and an elevated dessert reception
• Patriotic music
• Opportunities to meet members of the SC7 Expedition Team
• Reflections on 250 years of courage, sacrifice, and service
As daylight fades and the harbor lights begin to glow, guests will gather for the evening's signature moment: the Lanterns of Liberty Ceremony.
Each guest may purchase a commemorative lantern to illuminate in honor or memory of someone who has inspired service, sacrifice, leadership, or love of country. Together, we will conclude the evening with our final 250-second moment of silence, creating a powerful tribute to those who helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today.
This is more than an event.
It is an opportunity to stand in a remarkable place, connect with South Carolina's story, honor those who served, and become part of a shared moment that will be remembered long after the evening ends.
Space is limited. Advance registration is required.
South Carolina was where the tide turned. Join us as we honor the journey.
