This training will focus on clinical assessment of suicidality and self-injurious behavior in emerging adults.
About this Event

Join Brielle Stark-Adler, Ph.D. in a training for mental health practitioners seeking greater competencies in clinical risk assessment in emerging adulthood.

Young adults are well versed in a wide variety of mental health and wellness concepts and seek mental health care in numbers that surpass prior generations, yet suicide remains their second leading cause of death. Clinicians working with emerging adults are on the front lines of suicide prevention.

This training will focus on clinical assessment of suicidality and self-injurious behavior in emerging adults, levels of risk, and potential action steps, both in primary provider and supervisory roles. Clinicians will be prepared to recognize when it is safe and appropriate to continue working with a client with suicidal ideation and/or self-injurious behavior, and what to do when it is not. Approaches to assessment, creation of safety plans, integration of safety plans into treatment, levels of care for potential referral, what to expect from EMS and emergency room evaluations, advocacy and engagement with systems of care (including inpatient psychiatry and institutions of higher education) will be reviewed.

3 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, LCATs, NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts, and NYS Licensed Psychologists provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.

Objectives:

Upon completion of the training, participants will:

-be able to accurately identify examples of suicidal ideation, intent, and plan

-be familiar with safety planning and integration of safety plans into treatment.

-be able to accurately assess levels of risk and associated levels of intervention, and their roles within each.

In accordance with the NY State Department of Education guidelines, in order to receive continuing education contact hours, a participant needs to be present for the duration of the workshop/training. Therefore, participants who arrive late or leave the event early will not be granted a certificate of completion.

Cancellation Policy: Refunds will be provided for cancellations made in writing up to the day before the event.

Accommodations and Accessibility: HVPD welcomes participants with diverse abilities. Please contact us at [email protected] to request accessibility accommodations. Accommodation requests are considered in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
