Unleash Your Creativity with Clay Handbuilding Open Studio Time!
Whether you are starting your journey into the world of clay or already entrenched in the art you will be welcome during open studio clay times. Debbie Levine, an experienced art teacher/adaptive art therapist whose favorite media is clay will have a clay table set up and can help those present to to make sure their works are well formed and joined and provides advice and guidance as needed. The open studio hand-building times are not structured around one specific project - every participant determines their own project - which must fit on an 8” tile and within the dimensions of 8” x 8” x 8”. Unleash your inner artist and have an experienced art instructor there to facilitate you bringing your vision to life.
Clay open studio varies from other open studio projects in that all those working with clay will be at a designated clay table - reservations are highly recommended! We expect this to be a popular offering and space is limited! Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults accompanying children of any age must make a project of their own.
During Open Studio, our Clay Facilitator Can Answer Questions and Instruct you on:
Slab, Coil, and Pinch Pot Construction: From crafting elegant slabs to shaping intricate coils and forming organic pinch pots, ask which techniques will best help you realize your design.
Slip and Score Technique: Learn how to create seamless connections between clay pieces. Our facilitator will remind and instruct you on the slip and score method, ensuring your creations are securely joined and structurally sound.
Importance of Compression: Proper compression enhances the strength and durability of your clay forms. Our facilitator will guide you on the importance of proper compression techniques, empowering you to create pieces that stand the test of time.
Texturizing Surfaces: Our facilitator can help you find texturizing tools and will happily lead you in experimenting with an array of tools and techniques to add depth and visual interest to your clay pieces.
