Led by Myriam Goos.In this relaxed and fun handbuilding workshop, you will make your own ceramic breakfast set — a mug, bowl and spoon — using the pinch technique.
You’ll learn how to shape clay by hand and turn a simple lump into functional pieces. You'll be guided step-by-step through each form and technique, with practical tips and individual support along the way. You’ll also have the opportunity to decorate your pieces using simple carving techniques or by adding small details and textures to make them your own.
No prior pottery experience is needed. This workshop is perfect for complete beginners as well as anyone who simply enjoys making something by hand.
After the session, your pieces will be left to dry, glazed in a cream-white, food-safe finish, and fired twice. They will be ready for collection or shipping a few weeks later — ready to use at your breakfast table.
Myriam Goos is a Nelson-based ceramic artist and founder of Claybound NZ, working with both handbuilding and wheel techniques to create vessels and tableware that balance organic forms with functional design. She teaches workshops in handbuilding and wheel-throwing, guiding students step by step to explore clay, learn techniques, and enjoy the process.
Myriam's teaching style is relaxed, hands-on, and encouraging, making it easy for beginners to create something unique while more experienced makers can refine their skills. You can find her at the Saturday Market, and her work is also shown in selected galleries across Nelson and Tasman. Myriam’s work emphasises craftsmanship, texture, and form, with ceramics that are tactile and distinctive.
