About this Event

**Overview:**

Dive into the tactile world of clay artistry with our 10-week Handbuilding Clay Class! This beginner-friendly course focuses on traditional handbuilding techniques, allowing you to create functional and decorative pottery. Whether you're a complete novice or have some experience with ceramics, you'll explore the fundamentals of working with clay by hand, fostering creativity, patience, and fine motor skills in a relaxed, supportive environment.

**Class Details:**

- **Duration:** 10 weeks

- **Session Length:** 1.5 hours per week

- **Schedule:** Weekly sessions

- **Location:** Our well-equipped ceramics studio, complete with tools, kilns, and ample

- **Group Size:** Small class of 6-12 participants for personalized instruction

- **Instructor:** Led by an experienced ceramic artist with a passion for teaching hands-on crafts

**What You'll Learn:**

Over the 10 weeks, we'll progressively build your skills through guided projects and demonstrations. No prior experience is required— we'll start with the basics and advance to more complex forms. Key topics include:

Introduction to Clay Basics** – Understanding clay types, wedging, and simple pinching techniques to create small vessels like bowls or cups.

Coiling Methods** – Building taller forms such as vases or planters using coiled ropes of clay, with emphasis on smoothing and joining.

Slab Construction** – Rolling out flat slabs to construct boxes, tiles, or sculptural pieces, incorporating textures and patterns.

Combining Techniques** – Hybrid projects like sculptural figures or decorative platters, plus surface decoration with underglazes, slips, and carving.

Finishing and Firing** – Refining your pieces, glazing for color and shine, and learning about the kiln-firing process. You'll take home your fired creations!

**Projects and Outcomes:**

Participants will complete 10 unique pieces, ranging from everyday items like mugs and dishes to artistic sculptures. Each session includes hands-on practice, group critiques, and tips for troubleshooting common issues like cracking or warping. By the end, you'll have a portfolio of handmade ceramics and the confidence to continue creating at home.

**Materials and Fees:**

All clay, tools, glazes, and firing are included in the class fee. Wear comfortable clothes that can get messy—aprons provided!

**Who Should Join:**

Ideal for adults and teens (ages 13+) seeking a creative outlet, stress relief, or a new hobby. No artistic background needed—just bring your enthusiasm! This class promotes mindfulness through the meditative process of shaping clay, making it perfect for busy professionals, families, or anyone looking to unplug and get their hands dirty.
