Clay Canvas: Exploring Ceramic Surface Design

Participants will decorate three 4×4-inch clay coasters while exploring several ceramic surface decoration techniques, including Mishima (inlay), sgraffito, wax resist, and underglaze transfers. Throughout the workshop, students will learn when each technique is used, experiment with layering and texture, and gain confidence decorating clay in a relaxed, beginner-friendly environment. Finished coasters will be bisque fired after class and returned to the studio for pickup approximately 2–3 weeks later, along with recommendations for optional sealants if students wish to protect their finished pieces.
