Few vocalists authentically cross genres at the highest levels and maintain professional careers in both areas – but LIZZY HOYT is one of them! She won the TRADITIONAL SINGER OF THE YEAR award at the 2023 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Lizzy’s other awards and nominations include the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal, Canadian Folk Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, International Acoustic Music Awards, and Independent Music Awards. She has released five independent albums, multiple music video projects, and has given countless concert tours across Canada.
In addition to her folk music, Lizzy has recently added outstanding opera performances to her name. Praised by Opera Canada for both her dramatic depth and keen comedic gifts, she is a rising star in the Canadian classical music scene. She sang the title role in Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Cinderella) for Manitoba Opera and Brott Opera, Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina for Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, returned Orchestra Borealis to sing Rossini’s Giovanna d’Arco cantata (Joan of Arc), and returned to Manitoba Chamber Orchestra for a world premiere performance of a work commissioned for Lizzy by the MCO which highlighted both her classical and folk singing (The Ruins of Time)!
