Classical Remix Lab - New Brunswick Summer Music Festival

Classical Remix Lab is an interactive workshop that explores the connection between classical music and contemporary DJ culture. Participants will learn how DJs use classical compositions through sampling, looping, remixing, and live mixing techniques to create new musical experiences.
Led by Oscar Tecu (DJ Blue Angel) participants will gain hands-on experience using professional DJ controllers while exploring concepts such as tempo, phrasing, musical structure, and creative transitions. The workshop will conclude with participants creating and sharing their own classical-inspired mixes.
This workshop is suitable for youth, emerging artists, music students, and anyone interested in exploring music technology and creative performance with an interest in classical music.

Participants are required to bring their own laptop, and will be required to download FREE software compatible with the DJ equipment prior to the event.
About the instructor:
Oscar Tecu, also known as Blue Angel, is a political refugee from Guatemala who moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick, at the age of 8. There, he grew up immersed in the vibrant newcomer community. Surrounded by a culture rich in dance and rhythm, Tecu developed a deep passion for music and movement, shaping his unique sound and dynamic DJ style. His sets are known for their infectious energy and eclectic mix. With each performance, Blue Angel aims to create an inclusive atmosphere where people from all walks of life can come together and dance.
