Classic Salsa Sundays is Tampa Bay's premier monthly live Salsa event, held every first Sunday at 809 Lounge in Tampa, Florida. On Sunday, June 7, 2026, the event returns with Koko Band performing live, DJ Pechocho spinning classic Salsa, and a complimentary Salsa class led by instructor Jenny.
This month carries a special theme: the Fania era. Every guest is invited to come dressed in their 70s and 80s vintage best, celebrating the golden age of Salsa that shaped Latin culture in New York City and across the diaspora.
Classic Salsa Sundays is produced by Maloof Entertainment, with over 15 years and thousands of events across Tampa Bay. Entry is complimentary. No ticket required. Walk-in only.
WHAT IS THE FANIA ERA?
The Fania era refers to the golden period of Salsa music from the late 1960s through the 1980s, pioneered by the legendary Fania Records label in New York City. Artists including Celia Cruz, Héctor Lavoe, Willie Colón, Rubén Blades, Ray Barretto, Ismael Miranda, and El Gran Combo defined a sound that became the cultural heartbeat of the Puerto Rican, Cuban, and broader Latin diaspora. Classic Salsa Sundays at 809 Lounge Tampa is one of the few recurring live events in Florida dedicated to preserving and celebrating that sound in its authentic form.
JUNE 7 DRESS THEME: VINTAGE FANIA ERA
Guests are encouraged to wear their 70s and 80s vintage best in honor of the Fania era. Wide collars, guayaberas, platform shoes, wrap dresses, fedoras, and statement gold jewelry are all welcome and celebrated. This is not a costume contest. There are no prizes. This is a cultural homecoming, and the room will reflect it. Come dressed the way the music deserves to be honored.
