2:00 - 3:00 pm: Intoduction to polka partner work in the style of Mexican Folklore, with Manhatitlan Dance Group. Come with or without a partner to learn a few basic steps from the states of Monterrey and Chihuahua! Upbeat, and lots of fun spins!
Manhatitlan has been serving its local community for over a decade as a grassroots effort. Seeing a need for dance representation during traditional Mexican celebrations, a group of children, youth and parents with no formal dance experience, came together to begin a self learning process of dancing Mexican Folklore.
3:00 - 4:00 pm: Fun with Kathak dance
Kathak is a captivating dance style known for its detailed footwork, captivating spins, and graceful gestures. It is a platform for expressing a variety of rhythmic patterns. In our "Fun with Kathak Dance" class, we'll begin by learning some basic footwork and hand movements. From there, we'll progress to learning simple choreography and dance along to recorded music. This class is designed to provide a chance for everyone, regardless of experience, to discover the enchanting world of Kathak—an esteemed Indian classical dance form. It's an opportunity to explore its beauty and intricacies in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.
About Neela Zareen: Neela Zareen is an Indian classical dancer based in New York City and has trained in two styles: Kuchipudi with Guru Sadhana Paranji and Kathak with Guru Prerana Deshpande. “Neela Dance Academy” is dedicated to promoting Kathak and Kuchipudi dances and is located in Jackson Heights, Queens.
