Always wanted to learn patchwork and quilting? Now’s your chance!Join Susy at The Empty Bobbin for a four-session Patchwork & Quilting course on half square triangles. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this hands-on class will guide you through every step, from fabric selection to finishing touches.
Over four weeks, you’ll learn:
✔️ How to match and choose fabrics
✔️ Accurate rotary cutting and block size calculations
✔️ Sewing straight lines and lining up seams
✔️ Preparing your quilt top for quilting
✔️ Simple line quilting techniques
✔️ Binding methods for a professional finish
Sessions run Mondays from 1 PM – 4 PM, (Starting 5 May) and you can book per week or all sessions upfront to save.
Susy Padfield, an experienced quilter and embroidery enthusiast, brings years of crafting and longarm quilting expertise to her classes, ensuring you gain confidence with each step.

Week 1. - Choosing your fabrics, sizing your blocks, rotary cutting accuracy, marking and straight line sewing
Requirements list:
FABRIC Bring from home (or purchase in store) 6 x Fat Quarters picture/pattern fabric, 50cm dark fabric for background 1 and 1m fabric for background 2. When choosing fabrics for your background it is best to have something low pattern or solid colour. Ask in store if you need help.
Sewing machine, power cord and foot peddle and 2 spare bobbins. If you do not have a sewing machine, you can use one of ours
Rotary cutter, cutting mat & ruler if you have them. Use ours or purchase in store.
General sewing supplies - scissors, cotton/thread, pins, marking pencil/chalk, note pad & pen
Week 2. Trimming blocks, layout for table runner or quilt top, nesting seams and straight sewing.

Week 3. preparing the top and quilting the layers together with straight stitching

Wadding approx 1.5m x 1.8m (size will depend on project size, discussed in week 2)
Fabric for the back of your quilt (size will depend on project size, discussed in week 2)
Week 4.- Trimming, prepare binding and finishing your quilt

Facilities:
Our space is accessible for walkers, wheelchairs and gophers.
The toilet facilities are accessible.
We have a fridge, microwave & sandwich toaster.
Kettle, tea & coffee available
Dominos Pizza is nearby and the Service Station has food/snacks if needed.
